How to Change Your Home Page

Your Home Page is the first page you see when you start up your browser. It is also the page you go to whenever you click the Home button.

Users of Internet Explorer, version 5 or later, can use this shortcut to make the SeniorNet Some Useful Links page their Home Page ==> SHORTCUT

Otherwise, you can change your Home Page by following a few easy steps. But, first, click the Print button on the tool bar to PRINT THESE INSTRUCTIONS so you will have them to use.

Step 1:
Determine what browser you are using and what version of that browser you have. From the Help menu, select the About... entry (usually the last entry on the menu). Note the name of your browser and the version number below. You need only the first digit of the version number.

Browser __________________________ Version ______

Click OK or click the Back button to return to this page of instructions.

Step 2:
Go to the page you want to make your Home Page. If you just came from the SeniorNet Some Useful Links page, a click on the Back button will take you there.

The rest of the steps depend on the browser and version you have. Pick the appropriate one from the list below and follow the remaining steps.

For Microsoft Internet Explorer, Version 4:
3. From the View menu, select Internet Options.
4. Select the General tab (if not already selected). In the "Home page" section of the window, click the Use Current button. Click OK.

For Netscape Communicator, Version 4:
3. From the Edit menu, select Preferences.
4. Select the Navigator category (if not already selected). In the "Navigator starts with" section of the window, select the Home page radio button by clicking it. In the "Home page" section of the window, click the Use Current Page button. Click OK.

For America Online, Version 5.0:
You can attach the links page to the Home icon (little house) on the tool bar.
3. Click on My AOL on the tool bar. Select Preferences from the drop-down menu. Then, click on the WWW icon on the Preferences page.
4. Select the General tab (if not already selected). Click the Use Current button in the "Home page" section of the window. Click OK.

For America Online, Version 6 or 7:
AOL 6 and 7 do not come with a Home icon. However, you can put one on the tool bar.
3. Drag the icon with the heart from the title bar of the browser to the purple Favorites tool bar on the right side next to the AOL triangle. (You may have to to delete one of the existing icons to make room for it. Right click on an icon you don't want and click Remove from Toolbar.)
5. When the Select Icon dialog box opens, select any icon you think is appropriate for the links page. (I like the yellow star.) In the Label box type Home and then click OK.

That's all there is to it! In Internet Explorer and Netscape, the links page should appear whenever you start your browser or you click on the Home button. In AOL, clicking on the Home icon will start the browser at the links page and return to it whenever you click Home.

If you change browsers or computers, you may need to re-establish your Home Page again by using these instructions.
